Dirk van der Kooij founded the studio in 2009 in the basement of the Design Academy in Eindhoven. His guiding question seemed simple: Can plastic be a stable, durable material? Six pizza ovens welded together proved that it could. The resulting meltingpot series saw recycled plastic wrinkle and shrink as it cooled outside the mold, producing a rich, vivid touch. The ultimate imitator has finally found its identity.
